The Basin Advisory Councils (BACs) provide input in the development of the Metro Water District’s comprehensive plans and policies which guide water resources management in the 15-county metro Atlanta region. Six separate BACs represent each of the major river basins within the planning region:
Chattahoochee River Basin
Coosa/Etowah River Basin
Flint River Basin
Lake Lanier Basin
Ocmulgee River Basin
Oconee River Basin
The Metro Water District adopted the BAC Operating Procedures (PDF) to manage the BAC process. These procedures help keep BAC membership diverse and balanced to ensure a variety of perspectives are represented in the planning process.
2011 BAC Membership
Thank you to everyone who participated in our 2011 BAC Membership Drive. We received applications from all over the District representing a wide variety of interests. At the beginning of June, our executive committee approved 203 applicants for BAC membership, 90 of those members being new to the BAC planning process.
Thank you for your continued interest in the BACs. If you would like to receive information about the BACs contact us.
Not sure which River Basin you live in? Use the tool below to locate your address and find your basin. Once your address is displayed on the map, simply click on the solid color next to your address and the basin name will appear. For the purposes of the Metro Water District's Basin Advisory Council membership, if you live in the Chattahoochee River Basin upstream of Buford Dam, you are considered to live in the Lake Lanier Basin.
