The Basin Advisory Councils (BACs) provide input in the development of the Metro Water District’s comprehensive plans and policies which guide water resources management in the 15-county metro Atlanta region. Six separate BACs represent each of the major river basins within the planning region:
The Metro Water District adopted the BAC Operating Procedures (PDF) to manage the BAC process. These procedures help keep BAC membership diverse and balanced to ensure a variety of perspectives are represented in the planning process.
The Metro Water District is currently accepting applications for new BAC members to serve two-year terms beginning in June 2013. Any individual with a shared interest in the region’s water resources is invited to apply for membership, provided they reside within the river basin of the BAC for which they apply. If you are not sure which basin you live in, please use the mapping tool below to locate your address and find your basin. We are particularly looking for members who live in the Flint, Lake Lanier and Oconee river basins. Applications are due by Friday, May 17, 2013.
Use the tool below to locate your address and find your basin. Once your address is displayed on the map, simply click on the solid color next to your address and the basin name will appear. For the purposes of the Metro Water District's Basin Advisory Council membership, if you live in the Chattahoochee River Basin upstream of Buford Dam, you are considered to live in the Lake Lanier Basin.
