Basin Advisory Councils

District basin map

The Basin Advisory Councils (BACs) provide input in the development of the Metro Water District’s comprehensive plans and policies which guide water resources management in the 15-county metro Atlanta region. Six separate BACs represent each of the major river basins within the planning region:

  • Chattahoochee River Basin
  • Coosa/Etowah River Basin
  • Flint River Basin
  • Lake Lanier Basin
  • Ocmulgee River Basin
  • Oconee River Basin

The Metro Water District adopted the BAC Operating Procedures (PDF) to manage the BAC process. These procedures help keep BAC membership diverse and balanced to ensure a variety of perspectives are represented in the planning process.

BAC Membership Recruitment

The Metro Water District is currently accepting applications for new BAC members to serve two-year terms beginning in June 2013. Any individual with a shared interest in the region’s water resources is invited to apply for membership, provided they reside within the river basin of the BAC for which they apply. If you are not sure which basin you live in, please use the mapping tool below to locate your address and find your basin. We are particularly looking for members who live in the Flint, Lake Lanier and Oconee river basins. Applications are due by Friday, May 17, 2013.
